Thank You M’am
In the short story, “Thank You M’am” By Langston Hughes, Mrs.Jones is characterized as nurturing and magnanimous. “‘Let the water run until it gets warm,.’she said. ‘Here's a clean towel’” “There's nobody home at my house,’….‘Then we'll eat,’ said the woman” (Hughes)In this quote Mrs.Jones is giving Roger cleanliness and food even though he tried to rob her. Mrs.Jones is also showing that she is magnanimous because she is forgiving and nurturing him like almost nothing happened.

In the informational article “Teaching Chess and Life” By Carlos Capellan, Is characterized as watchful and discerning. “I learned to present myself in a positive way…” (Capellan) Carlos was watchful and made sure that he would stay out of gangs and off the streets of his dangerous neighborhood. Carlos joined chess and found a mentor who taught Carlos how to present himself and how to teach and pass on these lessons to others.
Mother To Son
In the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes, The mother is characterized as strong and benevolent. “So boy, don’t you turn back. Don’t you set down on the steps ’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.” (Hughes) The mother is giving her son lessons and trying not to get him to give up. The Mother has been strong moving through life and she is now trying to be nice and caring and benevolent toward her son.
