Halloween Opinion- October 2016

More Likely to get hit on Halloween
6x increase with one text of chance of getting hit
Reading one text is like driving down a football field at 55 mph without looking at field
More than 8 people killed and 1,000 injured everyday from  using  phones while driving. 2 out of 3 teens admit to using apps while driving
2 seconds off the road increase…….56% of parents admit to using phones

On Halloween children and young adults are more likely to get hit and injured by distracted drivers than any other day. It's hard enough to get people to stop texting and driving but when kids parents are driving distracted it shows them that it's a social norm. 56% of parents admit to using their phones and driving distracted while more than 66% of teens admit to using apps while driving. If you look away for more than 2 seconds you increase your risk of getting in an accident and looking down increases it by 6.  Every day in the US more than 8 people are killed and 1,000 people are injured by distracted drivers. If you read one text it's the equivalent of driving down a football field at 55 mph without looking at the field. I think that the punishment for distracted driving should be higher because one simple mistake can ruin someone's life for no reason and most people will get off with little to no punishment.
